Authorities are investigating a deadly incident in Piscataway that left four people dead, including a suspect who was fatally shot by police after allegedly attacking family members with a machete.

According to preliminary information released by police, officers were dispatched to a residence following reports of a violent disturbance. Upon entering the home, officers discovered three deceased individuals. Two of the victims are believed to have been the suspect’s grandparents. Their identities have not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.

Police said that when officers arrived on scene, they encountered a man armed with a machete. Authorities reported that the suspect charged toward officers while wielding the weapon. Officers initially attempted to de-escalate the situation and subdue the suspect using tasers; however, those efforts were unsuccessful.

As the threat continued, officers discharged their firearms, striking the suspect. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
