Bruce Frederick Bowie, a beloved husband, father, broadcaster, and community advocate, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at the Greater Niagara General Hospital. He was 72.
Born on November 2, 1953, in Piapot, Saskatchewan, Bruce Bowie lived a life defined by faith, kindness, and service to others. He was known for his ever-present smile, warm sense of humour, generosity of spirit, and deep humility. Above all, family and friends say he was guided by a strong love of the Lord, which shaped both his personal life and his work.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Maria; his children, David and Daniel (Heather); and his cherished granddaughters, Ava and Peyton. He will also be deeply missed by his brother, Ian (Eleanor), and their children, Jon (Tracy) and Elayna (Barry). The family has respectfully asked for privacy as they grieve, while also expressing how honoured they would be to hear and share memories from those whose lives Bruce touched.
Beyond his family, Bruce Bowie leaves behind a lasting legacy in Canadian broadcasting, particularly within the Edmonton community. He was widely known as a respected and influential radio personality, remembered for his engaging presence on 630 CHED and his meaningful contributions to local media. Colleagues and listeners alike recall him as someone who used his platform not just to entertain, but to uplift, inspire, and give back.
Tributes from former colleagues reflect the depth of his impact. Bryn Griffiths, who worked alongside Bruce at CISN, remembered him as a mentor and friend. “Very sad to hear about the passing of Bruce Bowie,” Griffiths shared. “He was a legendary Edmonton radio personality who taught me the importance of community engagement and always encouraged me to be myself. Every time we got together, there were laughs—and now, so many great memories of a first-class guy.”
Chris Scheetz, another former colleague, spoke of Bruce’s influence both professionally and personally. “No words can capture the feeling of loss,” Scheetz said. “Bruce was the hardest-working and most talented announcer I ever worked with. He changed my life by encouraging me to start running, which led to a major lifestyle change. His Christian values shone through in everything he did, and he was a constant source of inspiration.”
Those who knew Bruce describe him as far more than a radio host. He was a mentor, a motivator, and a compassionate presence who never hesitated to check in, offer encouragement, or lend support when it was needed most. His faith, commitment to community service, and genuine care for people left a profound and lasting impression.

A Celebration of Life will be held in early 2026. Additional details will be shared once arrangements are finalized. Those wishing to receive information or share memories are invited to email brucebowiememories@gmail.com.
The Bowie family has expressed heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Greater Niagara General Hospital, Victim Services Niagara, and Patterson Funeral Home for their compassionate care, as well as to friends, colleagues, and loved ones for the overwhelming messages of support during this difficult time.
Bruce Frederick Bowie will be remembered for a life well lived—one marked by faith, laughter, service, and an enduring impact on the many lives he touched.
